2017 Thanksgiving and Christmas - Busy times

As we are packing for our January trip to Ethiopia, we are still getting over the rush to celebrate Thanksgiving at Sherry's sister's home with her family and 1/2 the Collins clan.  Greg, Francy, Lucy and Trent made it  to Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving hike into Love Creek

Next came Christmas with Dianne and family (less Nobel).  I cut the Ash Juniper just before their arrival and let the kids mostly decorate it.  Dianne shipped boxes of Amazon goods down here so the kids could have presents and back at home.  They did a short trip to Mexico to see Mauricio's family and then back Christmas Eve.

New Mower

I got tired of walking behind my self-propelled DR Trimmer to mow the ranch road so I bought a towed DR Trimmer that the Yamaha can pull around the ranch while I ride.

Louisville Trip for World Championship Robotics

We just returned from watching our grandson compete for his 4th year in the World Championship VEX Robotics in Louisville, Ky. Some 600 High Schools qualififird from al over the world.  The 600 team were divided into 6 divisions of about 90-100 teams each.  Each team played 10 matches (ramdomly selected).  Trent (our grandson) finished with a 9-1 record placing him 4th in his division.  The top 8 team then selected teams from the remaining.  #1 team selected our son #4 so they were the number one seed in the round of 8 alliance teams.  Each team kept selecting until each alliance had 3 teams.  Then #1 played #8 which his alliance won.  But they then faced #4 team which had 2 strong Chince tema that were using a difficult defence and his tema had to go for a 2nd match which they also lost and were eliminted.

In the past Trent's alliance had made it to the finals where each division (6) sent an alliance of 3 teams.

He stil had a good time and won the VEX Build Award as one of the best designed and professional looking robots.
